We are what we do every day!

Are you happy with your life? Do you like it?

If not, you need to change what you do daily.

We are what we do every day. So, we are all things, activities, habits, and thoughts we repeatedly do.

“Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.” —Aristotle

Stop whining and start winning

Tampa, FL – Stop whining and start winning

Winners create a mindset that happens when incremental choices become their being. Winners might lose a big game, miss an important shot or even have a business fail. But winners don’t make excuses or whine, they learn from mistakes or failures and grow. They analyze what to work on and focus on becoming better for when the opportunity comes again.

Winners expect a positive result and do not rely on hope. They create their own destiny by incremental improvements every single day. Start winning and stop whining.

Overcoming Fear

Marietta,  GA: Overcoming Fear is Courage

I was rereading Jack London’s classic, White Fang and the recurring theme of fear, courage and struggle which is depicted so clearly and beautifully.

We develop courage when we confront our fears and adversity.  Life can be harsh at times, focusing on being on task in the moment which grounds our thinking. Don’t let anxiety and fear take root.

Confidence, not fear

Marietta, GA- “Confidence, not fear”

CONFIDENCE is the triumph of action over thought. No FEAR!

This post goes out to my good friend, Mark Gallagher, who embodies the “Confidence, No Fear” lifestyle. I’ve known Mark for several years and he encourages me every time we meet. His confidence is so contagious because he follows his internal moral compass that gives him the direction that he needs to go.

Relationship Value Formula

Marietta, GA – Relationship Value (RV) = (Positives) + (Negatives)

If we list the positives in a relationship versus the negatives, we create a balance sheet that we can see.

RV (Relationship Value) = x (Positive Experiences) + y (Negative Experiences)

Try using Trevor Moawad’s approach to outcome predictability and proactively remove the negative words, thoughts and experiences. Let the positive outcomes accumulate without any effort.

Using the balance sheet example, the RV (Relationship Value) will turn positive (+) just by removing the negatives (-).  Benjamin Franklyn talks about this exercise in his autobiography about decision making. Take a sheet of paper, fold it lengthwise and list the pros on one half of the sheet and the cons on the other. If the pros (+) outnumber the cons (-), then you have your decision (answer). This equation can be used on any relationship or decision.

Try this and let me know how it works for you.

Thanks again for the great feedback and encouragement.

To your happiness,

Thoughts matter

Marietta, GA – Thoughts matter

“The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts.”

Marcus Aurelius, Roman Emperor (121-180 AD)

Nineteen hundred years later and still I can’t add anything to this quote to make it any more relevant to our lives today.

Here is a short video that I hope you enjoy.

Be happy

Kennesaw, GA – Becoming happy. – (-) = (+)

Today, it’s sometimes really hard to be “happy” and “cheerful” all the time. It can be downright exhausting with negativity bombarding us from every direction. The news media, the economy, political unrest, current events, social media, etc.

Smiling every day is hard when things aren’t going our way and there are obstacles and challenges being thrown at us. What if there was a way to hit the “pause” button and breathe? What if we could adapt our thinking to better handle the constant change that is all around us?

We read from the self-help gurus that we have to be positive thinkers all the time to be happy and content. To always overcome weakness with strength. Have you ever tried to be happy, happy, happy all the time? People might look at you and think you are certifiably insane. Totally nuts. What if there was a middle ground that allowed us to “become” happy and contented? A process of continually thinking and acting in the moment?

Think about this for a moment…. In math class we learned that a negative integer multiplied by a negative is positive. What if this applied to our life as well? What if we simply removed “negative” thoughts and toxic things in our lives to became more “positive” without doing anything else?

Here is the math equation that I’m thinking of: – (-) = (+)

(-) (Negativity) = (+) (Positivity)

In English class, we were taught that a double negative statement becomes a positive statement but in my equation we are simply removing something negative and not replacing it with anything. By “removing” negativity we are becoming positive.

Trevor Moawad calls this “neutral thinking” and living in the moment allows this to happen. When we remove negative thinking, conversation or actions, we start becoming more positive without doing anything else. We begin living more positively inherently without even trying because of the void of negativity.

Friends, try this in your daily life. Slowly start removing negative items like corrosive music, negative news media, and maybe even toxic relationships. Just focus on removing negativity. Perhaps you will learn that positive living will happen naturally without any effort.

Pursuit of Happiness

Atlanta, GA – Pursuit of Happiness

I believe that the pursuit of happiness is a moral responsibility that we each have as members of our human race. The phrase was written by Thomas Jefferson as found in the Declaration of Independence and was originally written by the English philosopher John Locke in the early 18th century. In order to achieve greatness, we have to be passionate and driven to reach our potential. We need to work toward something. Aren’t we truly happy when we pursue our dreams and reach our capabilities? And happiness isn’t an instant feeling that comes and goes. Happiness is felt inside as you live.

My friend Edwin Luis Mendoza Alvarez writes that even losing while attempting big things can bring happiness. How? By embracing the process of the pursuit. Happiness is not just a present state but a mindset that is determined when you pursue something with your heart, mind and soul.

Now for the secret that I want to share with you. Something so simple to understand that millions of people spend years trying to accomplish but never find the happiness they are seeking. If you follow this simple rule, I guarantee your life will be changed.

In the present, do every little thing well.” That’s it. In other words, “Do good work” or as phrased by Greg Norman’s teacher, “Do it now, do it proper”.

Or found in scripture as, “Do all things decently and in order“. If we consciously perform every action, choice or decision as perfect as possible, we will continually get better at the process of achieving success. You will not fall behind by making good choices. The process gets easier and the rewards will follow. I guarantee it.
